Here, we will be updating you on our progress as we work to make this school a success.

The last day

posted Aug 2, 2013, 2:21 PM by Benjamin Wandelt

Hi all -

It's hard to believe, but today was the last day of the school!

Throughout there was an amazing atmosphere and by all accounts everyone enjoyed it immensely, students, lecturers, and organizers alike. The students were amazing, engaging the lecturers, discussing amongst themselves, organizing student talks and additional program items for themselves and working hard. At the same time it was abundantly clear that this Les Houches class was a fun-loving bunch who enjoyed the mountains during the day and socializing at night.

I should also say that the staff really helped created the right atmosphere and contribute hugely to making Les Houches what it is.

And the fantastic weather certainly didn't hurt!  It really is hard to imagine the view of the mountains from the school if you haven't experienced it for yourself.

I think we were all reluctant to leave today.

But we will never forget the time we spent together, the unique combination of stimulation, excitement, relaxation and play that is Les Houches.

All the best,

Lecture notes/slides

Hi again -

By all accounts we've been having a successful first week and a half in Les Houches and the first lecture notes/slides are starting to come in from the lecturers. Check them out on this new page (which you can also find in the menu bar).

Schedule Updates

posted Jul 8, 2013, 9:38 AM by Benjamin Wandelt

Hi again -

Please have a look at our newly updated schedule. Some of the changes are still provisional, pending approval by others who are affected by the change but this schedule should be a good approximation of the final one.

In addition to several slight changes to accommodate individual lecturers' travel arrangements you will notice the unfortunate absense of both Prof. David Spergel and Prof. Wolfgang Hillebrandt who informed us recently that they had to withdraw from participating in the school.

We have been able to add two lectures in the fourth week of the school by Dr. Jens Chluba who will be discussing the future perspective offered by studying CMB spectral distortions from space.

Hard to believe it will start tomorrow morning!

I wish all the participants and the lecturers both a stimulating and a relaxing experience for the next 4 weeks!

All the best,

Student Presentations and Posters

posted Jun 15, 2013, 1:10 PM by Benjamin Wandelt

Hi - as you could see we have included time in the schedule for short student presentations. There will be two sessions in the first week, giving everyone a few minutes to introduce themselves and say a few words about what they are working on.

Some people have asked whether they could bring a poster or a laptop presentation presenting a recent project. If you would like to prepare a poster/laptop presentation please feel free to do so, but it is by no means required.

Once the school starts we will figure out a good time to have a poster session where you can stand next to your poster or your laptop and talk about your work.

Best regards,

Ben (for the organizers).

First applicant

posted Jan 6, 2013, 2:54 PM by Benjamin Wandelt

The first person applied 30 minutes after the announcement went out!

When I sent out congratulations on having been first the reply was "I had so much fun last time I was there I dropped everything I was doing to send it in!"
